Comic Spotlight "Lady Of The Jungle"

Its time for another COMIC SPOTLIGHT and for this post I would like to shine the light onto one of my very favorite comics I've ever written in my whole life. The Lady of the Jungle series is 5 comics that total over 110 pages. It took well over a year and perhaps close to 2 years to get all the pages illustrated. Zanfadar illustrated the comic and it was just an amazing experience and I wish all my comics could be even just half as much fun to create.

Zanfadar is the artist that illustrated the original Arms Race, and also the amazing Not So Super... Man comic. I feel like we really clicked with the Not So Super... Man story and so I was excited to work with him on another project. Well that project was Lady Of The Jungle. And originally it was only meant to be I think a bit over 30 pages. But, as we started to work on the comic I started to really get excited about a lot of the ideas, and I wound up expanding on them.

The plotting of the story didn't change. We just expanded the scenes and let them play out fully instead of rushing them. There were times within the first 20 pages or so(before I decided to add more pages to the script) that some of the scenes just weren't as epic or exciting as I wanted. If I could make one change it would be to go back to the bar scene. And have a proper one. Do an arm-wrestling scene and then a huge barroom brawl. Regardless, I still am content with how the scene played out. But, it was a lot to convey in just one page.

Many of the scenes that were added were just more fights and more action. I thought it was a shame to spend so much time setting up the plot, and then to skimp on the action just seemed to be a mistake. And I'm very grateful that Zanfadar let me expand this comic. It became 2.5x bigger than the original plan. Was a huge undertaking.

And I really think where this comic shines is the action sequences. I really think it has some amazing and varied sequences. Plenty of feats of strength, acrobatics, and POWER moves in it. There are bone crushing grappling moves, thunderous kicks and punches, female vs male, female vs female, and female vs dangerous animal beasts! The last 3 issues of this comic are almost constant action. It really doesn't let up, and one thing I am also proud of though, is the fact that the narrative is not lost in the action sequences. The drama only increases as the stakes are raised and the heroes lives become imperiled by the evil Domina Queen(more on her to come).

This comic was meant to hearken back to the old school golden age comics, and also the old pulps, and the classic jungle adventure films and serials of yesteryear. With the added dose of Mighty Female Muscle Comix special formula which includes a splash of sensuality, a serving of fem dom, some old school adventure, and just the right amount of comedy. These comics really do have everything a femuscle fan could ever want.

This is actually a series I would like to revisit. I know Zanfadar wouldn't mind to draw a sequel or two of it. And I do have some plans for sequels. But, as of this writing, this series has still yet to find its audience. It has proved to be one of my least popular comics, and that is a bit disheartening, as I do feel there are many more adventures for Jane and Darsoom to be had. My goal of writing this posting is to hopefully convince those of you who took the time to read this, to take the chance and purchase a few of these comics. Or all of them. Trust me they really tell a fun story and they BUILD on each other.

These comics are like a rolling stone and they only gain greater momentum the longer they go on. The last three issues contain what has to be the biggest and most epic battle in any female muscle comic book you'll ever read. Jane and her jungle man lead an rag tag army against the evil jungle queen and her army of man hating Dominas. The last two issues also contain a truly epic cat fight as Jane and the Domina Queen square off WOMAN TO WOMAN.

I was really proud of the Domina Queen. I wanted her to be imposing, but also not musclebound. I wanted something special and unique about her. And so while she is super strong, most of the time she looks like an 8 foot tall supermodel. And I thought wouldn't it be cool that when she is pressed and has to use her strength, her muscles would grow and become visible. Which I think is an interesting dynamic, and you can see when she is struggling and exerting herself as her muscles flare and bulge out. And trust me the final fight in this comic is really epic, the culmination of the fight has them bringing down the house literally!

So all I can ask is for all the readers out there and fans of Mighty Female Muscle Comix to give this series a chance. If you're a fan of MFMC then you will love this comic. If you enjoyed(and I know a lot of you have) Not So Super... Man then I know you've going to enjoy this comic. Yes, she is not a spandex hero in this comic, but a loincloth is super skimpy and sexy, and she there are some really impressive superhuman feats in this comic. So thank you for your time reading this, and thank you all for your support, past, present, and future. And lastly. Stay safe.
